YouSendIt Becomes Hightail

YouSendIt, my “favorite” file sharing service (mostly because of the customer interactions and complete buffoonery that seems to run their business) has decided to ruin the one thing that they had going for them — their name.

Hightail is the perfect name for the people who run YouSendIt.  Instead of something that describes a focused and effective service, they renamed to something that is ambiguous, has no real direction, and alludes to asses in the air as they run away from something that is about to explode (which would be their servers and web site, since they suck).

I’m mostly glad they changed their name because, my God — Look at the amazing response they’ve garnered from their “passionate” renaming!

This whole name change thing reminds me of another article I wrote in my Breakdown series…

Also, the video they put up is absolutely asinine.  Look at the corporate gushery that goes around their stupid name!

“Well, I tried it fo free and decided it had value to me in my work.

I convinced my boss that the company should provide this to me to share large files with my customers.

He finally agreed and now after one use I it doesn’t work!!!!!!!

Thanks YouSendIt I can now eat crow and ask my boss to cancel the subscription!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Every time I try to use it, it prompts me to ‘Log in’. OK, I log in. Then it says: This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says  This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says… well, you get the picture. IT DOESN’T WORK. Then, when I attempt to contact customer support, the Caht box window resizes itself so the ‘send’ button is cut off. So No chat is possible. So I try to email. ‘Still loading’ after 55 minutes.

So I upgrade. BIG MISTAKE. Now I’ve just PAID top have the message  This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says This account is already registered. pleaseLog in. So I log in again. Then it says… USELESS GARBAGE. Goodbye.”

When something like this happens and you customers are losing precious time and money and are damaging their relationships with clients, YOU TELL THE TRUTH. If the truth is “we have no clue how long this will take”, then that’s what you tell them. We are all still waiting, and all we get from you guys is “working on it, soon”. Well of course you are working on it, you’d be idiots if you didn’t. It’s not an answer unless you’re a politician. That’s not how you treat people who depend on your service. You give them an ETA and you offer them compensation.

“I’ve send an email 5 days ago and gained no reply. I am continually charged by your company and I’m not using that kind of service. I was not even emailed that I was being billed in the credit card. I was not notified that I was being charged. It started July 2012. I was not completely aware. Until my mom, asked me what I am I paying 15$? This has been a major concern in the family. So pls abusing my account. This is my continuous concern since I was charged for something I am not using. This is totally unjust and 15$ is killing me. With due respect I want to hear from you guys. What are you gonna do with this? Are you gonna bill me for life? So STOP this. I am not using this account, seems like once in a month, as you can see with your data and it’s not even worth a dollar. This is unfair, I was billed immediately without even prior notice or email.”

“Your directions say to go to the received recently panel of the overview page.  How do I get to the overview page?????? where is the recently received panel?????  ther is nothing like that on my sign in page. or home page of possibly my “over view page?” You programmers need to start calling things by one name, not 75 different names for the same thing.  It has become increasingly difficult to keep up with computer stuff as programmers can’t seem to call their ass an ass.  What is an overview page????”
